In total shock

I’m terrified !!! My son has had a horrible time, he’s had open surgery to removed his kidney and his tumour he’s been amazing.  After a long 5 weeks we have had diagnosis of stage 1 intermediate Wilms and he starts chemotherapy Wednesday.  He’s having little op Tuesday to have his portocath ? in

I can’t believe this is happening, he’s 11 he shouldn’t have to go through this it’s not fair !!!!

Any tips to cope with this and any experience with vinchristine chemotherapy?

  • Hi there ... So sorry that you both are going through this heartbreaking time ...

Cancer knows no limits ... And has no compassion ... The one thing I do know is my son got type one diabetes when he was 14 and his whole life changed .. in a short space of time I'd been told about potential blindness / amputation etc and learning of hypos which if not treated right could be fatal .. and it was life long ...

Well I started to sit outside his room at night just to hear him breathing ... I cryed on and off every day ... One day he said " mum I can cope with this, but can't cope with you keeping crying" so that's when I snapped out of it and learned all l could learn about the condition .... I found ways to help him through him doing injections the blood sugar tests ... I nearly lost him twice along the way ...

I've only said this as it's a different sinario but still we have both had our babies having to go through things that's just not fare ... And I know how that feels ... So all I can say is live in the day... Take on one thing at a time ... Try not to think too far away ... Then it's overwhelming... And us mum's are stronger the we ever thought possible ... We do it, because there's no choice .....

So I'm sorry can't give you more help ... But I'm sending you a vertual hug from one mum to another ... Chrissie .xx

  • Thank you Chrissie that means a lot xx I’m so sorry for what you went through with your Son we are made of tough stuff us mums that’s for sure
