Dad diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma given 3 to 6 months

Hi i have never posted on here before so appologise for not introducing myself prior to this.

Today my dad was diagnosed with bile duct cancer and given only 3 to 6 months. Wierd thing is he is still riding his bike, earing and drinking.

With chemo they said 6 to 9. Has anyone else had this type of rare cancer. I feel numb and wierd.

Many thanks mark

  • You have described that perfectly.. (living in a bubble). That is exactly how I feel. I cant yet listen to any of dads music. Have to turn off the radio but as you said it's a case of learning to live with it.

A strange question but were you ever tempted fo see a medium? I'm tempted .

    Thanks again for your response

  • Yes I was but never went because I feared it would be too distressing. However, I do still think I might. My brother went to a Spiritualist Church and got some messages through - might be less intense than a one on one with a medium.

  • Yes very true. I may well try that Rachel. As you say less stressful. Its wierd because ever since his passing I keep seeing Robin's and they are acting wierd, almost like they are staring at me. Dont get me wrong I thing we are all on high alert once loosing someone but if gives me great comfort.

    Stay happy

  • Strange you should say that, I remember before we got the news that my dad was dying I kept seeing a robin in the garden and it literally stared at me in the eyes for what felt like ages. It still comes back sometimes usually on important dates. It was sat on my car on my birthday. I guess it’s the person who has passed’s way of telling you they are still around in spirit. I believe in these things even though many people don’t. I find it comforting.

  • Hello there,

I’m  sorry you are facing the same difficult journey that I have faced. My father Sadly passed at the end of July, the only consolation,  as it has been said , was that he was in little pain. Over the last two weeks of his life he had stopped eating and by the last week he just had lolly pops it was a very warm week in July. Absolutely heartbreaking to watch.

All you can do is be present to help support. Your Mum will know how much you care. Hopefully the community team can get her sickness under control, have they mentioned a syringe driver? My Dad has one for sickness for 5-6 weeks.

  • Yes I too beleive in all that.  I think the spirit energy lives on as the body is just a vessel to travel this earth on.

    *** worry I'm not a nutter LOL.

I also find weekends worse for the greif some saturdays I just dont want to get oig of bed but I guess this is due to the fact I'm not at work to take my mind off it, that or the fact that is when I would visit my parents.

    Mark xx

  • hello Mark,

it is nealry 1 year since you lost your dad to CC. Ihope that you have managed to come to terms with your loss and take comfort that his death was peacefull.

I am drawn to your post, as my aunty ( ia m only living relative and her next of kin and POA) is jaundiced ( 3 weeks now), has dark urine and pale stool and is itchey. She is 87 and has been living in a care home close to me for 8 years. she is unable to get up without assitance and can only walk a few steps with a frame, she is usually in her wheelchair. Her doctor said that he has elivated enzimes for bone and liver, but at that time she declined further tests. Now 2 weeks on she has agreed to a CT scan, but not sure when this will happen ( backlog with COVID?). she has some pain in her stomach has lost a lot of weight over the last year and is constripated every day. She remains quite clear in her mind though- no confusion. For those who have witnessed CC - her symtoms seem to fit advanced CC, would you agree, if yes without treatment and considering her symtoms and frailness could end of life be soon? I want to prepare myself, she has been in my life for nearly 60 years, and as we have an almost mothr daughter relationship its driving me crazy not knowing what might be to  come? If anybody ahs experiance I would welcome your views. thanks in advnace,

  • Hi yes my dad was diagnosed after a scan 3 weeks ago he expected to be in for 1 night and is still in hospital. He then caught covid in hospital and is getting home on Thursday coming. He's been given 2-3 weeks he went from fit healthy mountaineering cycling to bright yellow pretty much over night.  Horrific disease

  • Symptoms do sound very like cc. I'm dealing with it now it's very quick and hard to accept. My dads been given weeks from diagnosis to live. Heartbreaking.

  • so sorry to hear this , I am new on here , my father has being diagnosed with it stage 4 terminal,  he's lost alot of weight , has a biopsy next week fingers crossed he can have it , and maybe then on to chemo , but he is very down , he is not eating much , and now he is saying he is feeling burning sensation on his body and some kind of spots on his feet , did you father ever have these,  it's all been a whirlwind he only got told a week ago,  we all just in despair not knowing how to be , but trying to be normal around him trying to keep his spirits up, my father has always been strong rarely ever ill , always on the go , and now he is constantly tired,  the life has gone out of him , no appetite , he's just so down , I don't know how we will cope x
