Breast cancer DCIS decisions

Ok so I've just been diagnosed with Invasive Ductyl Carcinoma  Grade3 and Ductyl Carcinoma Insitu and have to decide whether to have chemotherapy first before lumpectomy then radiotherapy, or lumpectomy first then chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. Its really confusing which to do first the Drs are recommending the chemotherapy first but say it's my decision. Although my gut reaction is I just want it out, I want to make the right decision that gives me the best long-term prognosis. One of the questions I have is if the chemo doesn't work first can the chance of having a lumpectomy after reduce, in fact could I end up too I'll to have an op?

  • Hi there, there's a lot of technical questions there ... and wer not qualified , just average people who have or are looking after someone with cancer .. I've got breast cancer and a grade 3 ... I had a total mastectomy last July ... and I wish I could help, but really you have to weigh up the pros and cons ..

You can phone McMillan on their free phone number or the one on the home page here .. they are there Monday to Friday.. I phoned McMillan when I was unsure and feeling lost, befor my op ... it is one scary time ... but I'm nearly a year after op and doing well ... there's lots of us breast lasses on here .. all different stages and different treatments ...

So have a chat with the nurses on the helpline ... and although it's a hard road, there's lots of us on that same road too ... Chrissie x
