  • Hello KC67; welcome to the forum.  I am sorry that your father, who has reached a good age, is going to be moving towards the end of his life with cancer.  The medical staff who were caring for your dad should be giving you more information; whilst it is very difficult even for doctors to assess how long a patient will have left but they can generally give you an assessment based on past experiences of patients with similar conditions.  Having said that it will probably just be a medium estimate whereas some patients will live a lot longer than expected whilst others will deteriorate quickly.  I am attaching some information from this website which may be helpful for you to cope and understand what is happening.  The medical staff should also talk to you about palliative care staff coming in to help you.  You might like to ring the nurses here (Freefone 0808 800 4040) or MacMillan Cancer Support (0808 808 0000).

My uncle died not long ago aged 90,  While we were pleased he had lived a good long life it was very sad for family members who ahd known and loved him all his life.  So please take time to care for yourself.  Best wishes.  Annie
