New diagnosis: (Myxofibrosarcoma) Feeling terrified.

Hi,

I am a proud married mother of three daughters and I have just been diagnosed with Myxofibrosarcoma on the back of my lower left thigh. I am waiting for further tests to see if I have cancer anywhere else and I will see my consultant a week on Friday for the results. I have been told that if I don't have it anywhere else I have caught it early and the lump is removeable but because of the type of cancer it is I will need a large propotion of heaalthy tissuse and muscle removed. Then I will need plastic surgery to repair the leg, once this has healed I need to begin radiotherapy for six weeks Monday to Friday. All of the latter sounds daunting but I can get my head around that it is the waiting to find out if I have it else where that is crippling me with fear, anxiety and emotion. How do you manage to get through the waiting? Also has anyone else out there had a sarcoma?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat pj19

The long wait for results is often described here as such an anxious time, that crippling uncertainty  making us feel paralysed with fear and unable to perform even day to day routine activities. There are so many people on this forum who have been through this waiting that I hope you will hear from them soon and that they will share some of their top coping strategies with you. I have read often on this forum that trying to keep busy is a good way to pass the time and focusing on other things. Trying not to do any online research if possible can also help but all these are obviously easier said than done. I hope that you don't have to wait too long.

I thought I'd also share with you our information page on sarcomas . I hope you will also hear from others here who have had a sarcoma and if  you live in the UK and if you ever have any questions, our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Don't hesitate to give them a call if you want to talk things through with them.

    Best wishes,
