Still no treatment started

My grandad had experienced symptoms since November 2017, contacted his GP early 2018 and was diagnosed on 5th March 2018 with a brain and lung cancerous tumour, secondary from a melanoma he had removed last year. He has had numerous CT scans, MRI scans, numerous consultations, MDT meetings, referrals back and forth to different specialists (who then start the process from the very beginning) both at James Cook and Newcastle Freemans. Now 31st May he is waiting for an appointment for another consultation. There has been no mention of a date to start treatment yet which is frustrating. That is half a year that he has had symptoms with no treatment given yet. They state their aim is to start treatment but don't know which treatment is best for him.

As a family who has lost loved ones previously due to not starting treatment soon enough, we are not sure how to speed this process up.

  • Hello HR1993.  So sorry to learn of your grandad's illness and all the worries you are having.  From the information given; I can understand your worries at the delay.  I do not know which hospital you are waiting for so I have looked up both to find where you make contact to ask them what is going on and explaining your worries.  The contact covers concerns and complaints so I would just explain your concerns about the delay and how your grandad has been waiting for treatment for some time now.
