My dad has cancer and I'm scared for him

Hi, My dad was recently diagnosed with cancer, well about 2weeks ago actually. He had lung cancer before and that resulted in having half of his left lung removed.Hes got it again, but in his lungs, back, throat and they think it's in his liver.Im so scared for him,he's the same as he's always been,tough..That's just a front.

Hes had his first radiotherapy today(Wed) but I don't really know if this is going to cure him completely..

He doesn't talk to me about it,my brother keeps me informed as I don't see him everyday.

I guess I just wait........

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Focus although I'm sorry to read that your dad's cancer has returned.

It's good that your brother keeps you updated with how your dad is getting on but have you tried to talk to your dad about it when you do see him? If you would like to be more involved and know how your dad is feeling maybe you could just let him know that you're there for him if he does want to chat about what he's going through as I'm sure he would really appreciate knowing the offer is there.

You could ask your dad for permission to speak to his medical team if you'd like to find out more about his treatment plan as well. I know you said you're unsure about what the radiotherapy is going to do in this instance so I've included some general information we have this on our website for you to have a look at which I hope will make things a bit clearer.

Many of our members here know how tough and scary it can be supporting someone on their cancer journey and hopefully some of them will pop by soon to offer their support and advice.

I hope your dad's first radiotherapy session went well on Wednesday Focus and I'll have my fingers crossed that it helps to keep the cancer at bay.

    Kind regards,
