Newly diagnosed - pancreatic cancer

My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a week ago..... currently we have very little information as he is meeting his consultant next week. We do know it is unlikely to be operable due to its location by a blood vessel although the doctors seem to think it is small and hasn't spread. Obviously we are still in a state of shock and incredibly scared. I am going to the meeting next week with him - what should we ask and is there any advice anyone can give for getting through the next few weeks / months?

  • Welcome to the forum, Mrshappy, although I'm sorry to hear about the reason that brings you here.

Hopefully you will soon get to chat with others here that can relate to your dad's situation but until then, as you mentioned you had very little information I thought that perhaps you could use a section of our website that addresses pancreatic cancer, to read more please click here.

Also, feel free to reach out to our cancer nurses and ask any questions you might have. They're available on this phone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Once you know more, come back and give us an update.

Wishing you and your dad all the best,

  • How did things turn out with your dad? We were in a very similar position to you re not curable but treatable. We have just been offered chemo for him nothing else... Giving him 11 months. Just doesn't seem right. Going to try and get second opinion, just need some hope.
