  • Hello and welcome. I am so sorry to read of your situation with your mam being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. I lost my husband to lung cancer in 2016, he was only 61 and we had just 6 months from diagnosis to death. Like your mam he struggled to breathe and coughed up a lot of blood but for a couple of months wasn't too bad . He was put on 24/7 oxygen and started to get weaker and the weight started to come off. The Macmillan nurse told us at the beginning that with lung cancer things can change rapidly and they did. My husband was given a prognosis of 9-12 months but he arrived at the end of his journey after 6 months. My situation was different because I lived with and cared for my husband at home. I have 2 sons who at the time were 35 and 32 and live 50 and 60 miles away. Because of work and other commitments they came when they were able and neither myself or my husband expected any more. I am sorry that I can't help with guessing how long you will have your mam. Maybe her medical team have given her some kind of prognosis, but that is usually just a guess as every person and every cancer is different. From a loving mam to 2 lovely lads to a loving son with a lovely mam I send caring thoughts. Lynne.
