Colposcopy results

Hi there

I have just been told today that I have stage 1b cervical cancer after a Colposcopy but I have to be referred for an MRI to ascertain the size of the tumour and I am wandering if the stage of cancer will change from 1b or will it remain at the same stage? I am just a bit confused by it all and waiting for an appointing for MRI is just adding to the anxiety. Hoping for some advice.

Thanks Tracy

  • Hi Vamp,

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  I was diagnosed with stage 2A cervical cancer 5 years ago.  I had chemo and radiation and I have  had good reports  since finishing up treatment.  So, I think there is definitely hope that your cancer is treatable, curable.  Remain positive, take things one day at a time, one treatment at a time and look forward to the day this will be behind you.  Keep us posted on how you progress, and let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to help with.

  • Thank you so much Laura.

I am glad to hear that things are looking better for you. Just hate all the waiting that’s involved just want to know what’s there and start the treatment. I am remaining positive that I will overcome this not just for me but for my boys.

Thanks again and I will keep you updated.

  • Hi there. My mum was diagnosed with borderline 2b/3....10 years ago now! Really successful treatment as caught and treated well. Im sure all will be well for you. Good luck x

  • I'm not a medic, but know that the stage may change following further tests. MRI scans allow the doctors to, among others things, check for any spread. At the moment you are in a good place, relatively speaking, because it has not spread. It is understandable that you are anxious. MRI scans, and the waiting for the resutls afterwards, is horrible. Most of us on this site, including myself, have been there. xx Harry

  • Hi my MRI is next Thursday. No indication of staging or results just yet, awaiting those eagerly. The waiting is such an anxious time isn't it :-( I've joined up to the jos trust forum and for a lot of women the staging seems to stay pretty much the same after MRI. Just wanted to reach out and let you know you're not alone xx

  • Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging words Laura I am remaining positive and determined to beat this! I am really pleased to hear that you are getting through this and that it’s almost behind you!

Wil let you know once I get my MRI scan if the appt ever comes through!

    Thanks again Tracy x

  • Hi Harry

thanks for the advice I am hoping that it stays the same but understand it might change. I think it’s the waiting that’s worse than anything.
