Double whammy of Gallbladder and Bile Duct Cancers

I am 53 years old and have been diagnosed with both Gallbladder and Bile Duct Cancer. This whole journey started on 22nd January when I didn’t feel well and had started to turn yellow.

During  the past weeks I have had an ERCP and then an operation to take out half of my liver, my gallbladder and bile duct and surrounding lymph nodes. I am due to start chemotherapy (Capecitabine) in two weeks time.

i was wondering if anyone has experience of this chemo on these cancers? Or exeperience of both of these cancers at once?

i guess that I’m looking for reassurance that I might beat these rather rare beasts!,

thank you

Kate

Update

i have to have surgery to remove two ovarian cysts within the next two weeks. The gynaecologist said that there is a possibility that the cancer has gone from the gallbladder or bile duct to the ovaries. I will find out a week after the next surgery.

what next I wonder??

  • Hello Tudann64,

I just wanted to say a big welcome to our forum. I have to say the expressions "double whammy" and "rare beasts" made me smile. Despite having been struck by these two rare cancers at the same time, you seem to have kept a great sense of humour! :D

I wanted to wish you the best of luck as you are about to start chemotherapy. We have some information on capecitabine for gallbladder cancer here which I hope you will find useful.

I hope you will hear from others here who have been diagnosed with both these cancers at once and that you will get to talk about these "rare beasts" with someone else who has been in a similar position to you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucie for your reply. I have looked at the info on Capecitabine.

I am trying to keep my sense of humour, although I nearly lost this on Thursday when I was told that I have to have both ovaries removed ( in the next two weeks) as each has a cyst and that they may be cancerous too, although the gynae isn’t sure - what next I wonder?!!

Still my sense of humour has returned as I look at possibly having three types of cancer at once!!!

    Bring it on!!
