length of time for diagnosis

Hi, im new here. hoping someone can tell me wh there seems to be different waiting times for cancer diagnosis for various cancers.

I had a colonoscopy on 3 March and was told I had a large polyp in my rectal area, they took a biopsy and before I knew it i was being sent down for a CT scan. I was then sent home with a letter that told me they had taken biopsies and that I would get a letter within the week to see the consultant.

A week later I received a phone call from the hospital asking me to go in and see the doctor the following Tuesday (13th March), 30 minutes later they called me back to cancel that  appointment, saying the doctor wants me to have an MRI before he sees me. I asked why I needed an MRI and I was told 'to get a better picture, and that the CT scan was unclear' I got a bit agistated and they didnt seem to be tellnig me anytning, I said that they cant just keep sending people for tests and not tell them why.. I asked about the biopsy, I was put onto a nurse, who told me they had the results and discussed them in a meeting which is why im being sent for an MRI.. I asked what the results of the biopsy was.. (all i remember was the word cancer) .. the line went dead... they called me back and then said it wasnt a diagnosis, I ended up speakng to my GP on the folowing Monday, who confirmed that its adeno cancer....

On Tuesday 13 March I got another call from the hospital offereing me another apppointment for the 15th to see a consultant, I accepted,  but again, 30 minutes later they called cancelling this, as I needed to have an MRI, which was booked for 18th March. I then got a call from a nurse explaining i did have adeno carcinoma. telling me the measurements of the polyp etc (which i thought was a bit odd)

I went for my MRI on 18th March,

On Thursday 22 March, I called the hospital as I had some pain and was told a nurse would call me back.. 5.30 in the evening a nurse called me back and started to tell me that they had the MDT meeting that day and it recommended I need to see a surgeon, as they want to get it out as it COULD be cancer, (this was the same nurse who told me it was adeno carcinoma a week earlier) and they are trying to get me in to see one as quick as they can..

On Friday 23rd March, the hospital called me offiering me an appointment to see the consultant surgeon on 29th March (to finally give me the results)

is this normal, as I feel like i have been through an emotional mill, my nerves are shot to pieces and I have been unable to to go to work as I keep breaking down in tears... im absolutely dreading Thursday adn not sure i can take much more :(

  • Hi Willow 1265

just wanted to reply as that sounds an awful experience.

I’m currently waiting on results, I had a colonoscopy on the 16th and they found a flat polyp in my caecum couldn’t tell me what it was, they took x4 biopsies. I then received an appointment the following morning for a CT contrast scan on the 22nd March. I was told results will be ready in a week. So realistically it’s only been just over a week but I’ve no idea when or who is giving me these results.

Limbo land is not a nice place to be and makes you feel a bit crazy.
