T4 N3 M1B what does it mean

We have had dad’s results he has (T4 N3 M1B) they said it has metastasised to the lymph nodes. The Biopsy results were negative so he has to have a needle guided CT to try again,I’m a bit speechless with it all to be honest it’s a lot to take in when your sitting in that room, dad also has emphysema and Interstitial Lung Disease the consultant said it would be difficult for the guided needle biopsy as the interstitial lung disease is scaring? So this carries risks, dad is still deciding if he wants it done but without it he won’t know what type of cancer it is and what treatment is available. With the interstitial disease the consultant also said that chemo and radiotherapy could affect it and make it worse, My dad and I are so very confused with it all, any guidance or and vice would be appreciated xx

  • Hi there ... and welcome to our little chat room ... well just wondering how old your dad is ... coz my dad had emphysema and lung disease as he worked down the coal mine for 50 years ... he also had in his last couple of years, a mass in his stomach... they said it could be a hernia but because of heath wasn't well enough to go through surgery or anaesthetic. . So he lived with it for about a year or so ...

After he died, it turned out that mass was cancer ... I'm so glad we never knew ... just treated every day as a normal day ... if we'd have known it would have made us act differently ... and I'm so glad he never had to go through chemo at his age and health ...

If your dad wants treatment that is his choice and his right ... but if he just wants to take every day and not go through treatment , then he has that right too ... whichever he chooses, it will be a hard path ... but holding his hand, and letting him lead the way is what I'd have done with my dad ... he was like the B F G  in ways and looks ... but he'd been through so much , he was tired ...

So sending you caring vertual hug to you both ... Chrissie
