I have rectal cancer plus two secondaries on liver, all stage 3.I have had a stoma(bag) plus a kidney stent and have been out of hospital 3 days.i AM NOT DUE TO SEE ONCOLOGIST FOR A FURTHER TWO WEEKS

HI,NEW TO FORUM.MY NAME IS CHRIS

HAVE RECTAL CANCER AND SECONDARIES ON LIVER STAGE 3.

This was discovered only 4 weeks ago after being treated for nearly 9 months for something totally unrelated

I have had a kidney stent and  have a stoma(bag) fitted which i am coping with better than i thought.Been out of hospital 3 days but have to wait two weeks to see oncologist to decide where we go to  from here.Just wondering if anyone else has had this cancer and if so how they have managed with treatment etc.

At present i am in constant pain to one degree or another, mainly rectal but also low stomach pains.Am taking paracetamol, ibuprofen and buscopan every 4 hours.I was taking tramadol for some time before my operation, but they were making me very sick so have ditched them.

Any input would be great thanks

  • Hi Chris,

I don't come on the forum very often but I have just noticed your post. I'm not sure if anything I can say will help.

I have just started the first course ( of six) of treatment for my cancer, which is rectal carcinoma stage 4. The difference is that my secondary has spread to all sections of my liver, so it is inoperable. There will be no surgery, just chemotherapy to try and control the size and spread of the tumours. I have chosen the combination of tablets and infusion as my oncologist said because of my age (60) and condition that I should be able to handle it.

My rectal pain comes and goes but I  use co-codamol which seems to ease it, there is a lot of sitting down!

    Hope this is useful Peter
