Stage 1 invasive tubular breast cancer diagnosis

Well after 2 separate vac biopsies and countless mammograms I was today told that the second suspicious area is stage 1 invasive tubular breast cancer. I had a cry partly due to shock and partly due to family crying. Next stage is to see the surgeon and have this and the atypical ductal hyperplasia in a second area of the same breast removed, along with a couple of my lymph nodes for testing. Not really sure how I feel. Don't really know what I want to ask. I just feel the need to share.

  • Hi,

My wife who is 49 had tubular cancer in her right breast 9 years ago. It was invasive but the lump was only 1.2cm. It was grade 1. She had a lumpectomy and this was followed by two months of radiation therapy.
She had been given regular mammograms every 12 months ever since and has each time showed clear.

However, today she was called back after a routine mammogram and the tests revealed a new lump. We have to wait a week for biopsy results. It's so horrible and it's bought back all the stress and worry of the first time.

The nurse has said they may try chemo, or maybe a double mastectomy. I think recurrence can be treated very seriously by doctors but as far as I remember if it is tubular cancer it is almost always a slow growing grade 1 cancer which only very rarely spreads beyond the breast, so I'm surprised they are thinking about chemo (before even the op!) and the possibility of mastectomy.
