Dad has stage 4 lung cancer

My dad has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He has never been ill, went into hospital 4 weeks ago with a chest infection, to be told he has stage 4 cancer. I am finding it so hard to cope with this news. He is only 67 and my rock. To add to the problems, he and my mum live in Cyprus. My mum is having to deal with all this on her own. I am feeling so helpless. I am going out in 4 weeks but I am worried even that may be too late. Just wanted to say hello and to ask how people deal with this devastating news?

  • Hello Mandy

so sorry to hear about your fathers diagnosis, but i feel we have come to the right place to have any questions answered or just to see how others are handling the same situation we are in, i have just joined today and looking through other post i can see this is a very friendly forum where people are opem to sharing information/ offering advice / and listening.

my partner was given the same diagnosis last month and i know how it feels to hear news like that and it is not easy especially for you as your parents are living in cyprus. i have written my first post on how we came to know that my partner had stage 4 lung cancer if your are interested in seeing it from our experience, it sounds like it was the same symptom which brought the cancer to our attention however my partners road to finding out was a bit up and down due to the GP he went to. if i may ask, Why do you feel or believe your dad has 4 weeks to live, is this what the doctors have told him?

please feel free to message me if you would like to speak with someone who is in the same situation as you, it would maybe be good for both of us to share our thoughts and fears.

    Stay strong
