Just been diagnosed

Just been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer . They said there was no lymph nodes included but they still want to remove some when operating ! I feel really ill all of a sudden so tired as I can't sleep and feel shaky all the time ! I keep thinking cancer has spread and that's why I'm feeling rough !! Come some one please just talk to me

  • My 2 daughters were such a blessing throughout. Came to all my appointments with me including radiotherapy- their place of work was very supportive nd told them to take whatever time they needed to t b there for me:-)

I’m not a clinician but wonder if it is a nervous tummy u have. Maybe a loss of interest in eating as u used to as well. Mind racing chasing its tail to nowhere. Hard to get to sleep nd waking early. All a normal reaction.

Mention your worries at your appointment on the 8th.

Keep doing what u r doing it will get easier. X

  • Thanks so much ! Yes think it is a nervous thing also I started taking iron tablets 10 days ago without being prescribed but think it was a bad idea !!yes the 8th can't come quick enough !!

    X

  • Just wondering what options they gave u to consider.  Presumably they will give u your op date on the 8 th having given u time to process and have some thoughts on your treatment. I decided t have breast conservation they said lymph nodes looked clear but they took the 2 sentinel nodes out to biopsy to make certain anyway. My results post op was clear margins nd clear nodes- a relief:-) x

  • Hi Sandra

they said they'd do a lumpectomy and take lymph nodes to check then radiotherapy , but will find out more on 8th X

  • Hi I was diagnosed with breast cancerthis time last year chemo did the job killed the tumor. Had the the lumpectomy with 5 lymph nodes removed radiotherapy completed in January just have to complete the herceptine injections but getting to the end. Stay positive :) Ever need a chat we're all here for you, but put the thoughts of cancer spreading out of your mind ( easier said than done some might say) but concentrate on the treatment day by day.
  • Thank you for you words of support mean so much ️

  • Cracking! Same as I had!

I too had 2 appts pre op. 2nd appt was to go through decisions nd make sure I understood nd was in agreement. I was given my surgery date. I was sent for my pre op check too( just a questionnaire, bloods nd height nd weight stuff).

You might want t look at my threads I started:-day case op advice ( pre op)

and post op thread -  breast lumpectomy and node removal.

Just click on my name scroll t threads nd click on thread u want t read.

Also same for [@rileyroo]‍ her brill thread Radiotherapy.

The treads aren’t really active now because we have moved on a little way further now.

Will give u an in-site to our journey ( remember everyone’s is of course different):-)

U may b wondering... what will I look like after? Can only comment on how mine looks. 1 st I had 2 lumps but they made 1 incision to take them both but obviously more tissue was taken for 2 than 1. That being said... scar wise- the incision was made around my areole - so now u have t look really close to see the scar - it just looks part of the edge of my areole. The lymph node scar is a bit more visible but it kinda looks like an armpit type crease. I have been swimming in my usual costume nd was confident no one could tell.... anything. Remember I can only tell u my experience:-)

So.... hang in there lass. I remember telling everyone after op that I had made everything bigger in my head than it actually was:-)

Deep breathes.... look this in the eye nd stare it down. U can do this!

have as good a day as u can. X

  • Thank you so much for taking time to help me ! Every day I feel drained and weak so this chat really helps xx

  • Thanks for your kind words just have so many aches and no energy feel like in living in shock x

  • Me too! I had two very small sites, one invasive and one not. Both out via same incision. Mine is on the side of my breast but has healed very well. Consultant was very pleased with his handiwork. The scar where the node was taken out is almost invisible.

I only had the one appointment with the consultant prior to surgery, have to say the run up to this point was messy but once I changed consultants to the current one, everything was fine.

    It’s do able.
