Hello debydoo.  I am so sorry you have had such terrible news.  It is now some years since my own mother died of cancer; you are suddenly thrown into something terrible. My mum had suspected what was wrong and was quite accepting of what was going to happen; we made great efforts to remain cheerful in front of her as she wanted to chat about the things she had always talked about; family, what was happening in the news.  And that is all I can advise: follow your mum's lead, and don't think too far forward; make the most of the time you have.  It is hard but you don't want your mum to be worrying about her family more than can be helped.    It might help you to ring MacMillan Cancer Support who help anyone affected by cancer which includes the family of patients.  Freefone number is 0808 808 0000. 

Hi there debbydoo. I was 36 when l lost my wonderful mum .. she phoned me one Monday morning about her staying at mine the next day ... at 5.20 that afternoon she had gone from sudden heart attack ... I never got a chance to tell her one more time I loved her and was so proud she was my mum .. and thank her for her love and how she'd loved my son's ... never to hold her hand or see her smile again .. so all I would say is take every day you have and pack it full of memories ... although I know it must be harder to go through coz if I'd had one more day , I would have never let go ... so my heart is with you at this time ... hold on with your dad as you'll both need each other ....
