Soft pallet throat cancer

We have been given the worse news about a family member with who has throat cancer . The large tumour is on the soft pallet and we are waiting for a pep scan . Is anyone able to comment on their experiences of this type of cancer? What is consider large in terms of tumour size ?

  • Hi Vatch

I had my feeding tube in on Thursday and they managed to stick the metal trochar spike through my liver now I'm in a lot of pain...

What was your pain like when they put your tube in? I don't know what's normal but I'm in a lot of pain deep in my abdomen... They said it might be sore at the skin... Which is actually fine! No pain at the skin at all.

Let me know.....i don't want to go to hospital a few days out from starting treatment!

  • Hi again Vatch.. Meant to all how the MRI went? Paula..x

  • Paula

i was in two minds about telling you that if I said the first two days after having the tube fitting is bloody painful .... that might have been underplaying it a bit .... it does only last for two days though ... then get a lot easier ...... trying to move in bad without moving your stomach muscle though is an art and damn near impossible

im sure all this resonates with you now

onw strange thing you will have to get used to is you stomach muscles clenching and popping involuntary ..... when it happens you will know what I mean ... you can watch it happen too ... it’s weird

have you been given 26 million gallons of forticips?

i have not had the tests yet just waiting for the appointments to come through

so you must be getting near to treatment time how’s it all going?

    vatch

  • Good morning barb, I just wanted to see how your journey went, I wAs originally diagnosed 2 weeks ago with tonsil cancer, then had a panendoscopy where they also found it in my soft pallett, have been told they now can't operate, waiting to see the team next week to discuss treatment plan

  • Hi Angelspain,

I noticed you were just trying to get in touch Barb. Unforunately Barb hasn't returned to the forum since making that post back in 2018 so there is a chance you may not hear back from her.

I really do hope she will return to share her experiences with you but just in case she doesn't it may be worth having another look through the forum to see if there are some more recent discussions about this within the community.

Wishing you all the best with your team meeting next week.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

not Barb here but I had tonsil soft palette and tongue cancer all treated with radiation and chemo over Sven weeks ..

that was three years ago .. I am now back at work full time and have been for two and a half years ..

I don't make saliva so carry water everywhere and have reduced taste but other than that it's not too bad at all..

oh and the radiation bumped off my thyroid so I take thyroxine !

    wishing you luck

  • Morning Paula

Many thanks for your reply, that's great news and very hopeful for me I know they say everyone is different but a success story is great, how bad was the radiotherapy? As bad as everyone says? I'm quite well in myself tbh but not looking forward to the treatment knocking me sideways,

Im so pleased you are cancer free, that has put a smile on my early face this morning

    Many thanks

  • Hiya, I was fatigued when I started treatment , and didn't have any success with the feeding tube so had to force myself to maintain calorific intake which wasn't easy ...

having said that I drive myself to all my appointments for dr and radiation, husband took me to chemo ... it was an excuse for him to have a day off ..

The first four weeks I thought it was ok , thought this ain't so bad , by the end of the sixth I was thinking thank god it's it's over !
take the pain meds , I also took sleepers , brain went a thousand miles an hour ... I used oral lignocaine gel to numb my mouth  to drink shakes towards the end ...

the first ten days out of treatment my skin really started to break down and then I spent a couple weeks curled up in a ball feeling sorry for myself, if no one warned you , you have the capability of making ectoplasm ! Consider yourself warned ! I had a pile of little hand towels all around the house that I used as hankies ..lol..and buckets .. yeah buckets, the ectoplasm made me heave  ... then slowly you realise you feel better and life slowly starts again , different ...but ok..

it sounds awful and for a few weeks it really was , but now it's like a vague dream , describing it to you now seems like an alternate reality ...

    I hope I haven't terrified you ,

main advice , take the drugs ! Ask for help if you need it !
warn your loved ones it gets a bit ugly for a while but it's just a few months , and you move on ... you carry it with you but it gets old ️
