Kidney Tumour

Hi all..

Just found out today that my mum in law has cancerous tumour and needs to have kidney removed. I lost my best friend to cancer some years ago so know a fair bit about the disease. But not much about kidneys and surgery. I was just wondering about the surgery, after treatment and recovery. And if the cancer typically can be elsewhere when started it kidneys. Any advice or real life experiences would be appreciated

Mum is 68.

Thanks

  • Hello Paula; so sorry to hear about your mum.  If you type the words "kidney cancer" into the box marked Search Forum above your post you will find that there have been quite a few posts about this.  You may find some of them useful and may like to contact the people who have made the posts so that they can share their experiences with you.  My best wishes.

  • Hi Paula

Im 44 and was diagnosed with kidney cancer last October ! I think surgery will depend on the size of the tumour and whether it is encapsulated! My tumour was quite large at just over 8 cm so I had a radical nephrectomy where they took my left kidney out ! For smaller tumours this can often be done lapascopic ( not sure if spelt right !! )

If I can help in anyway please just ask x jo
