Can anyone give me an insight?

Im guessing i just need to patient and wait but all this waiting is wrecking my head.

My best friend, my only friend in fact, started suffering stomach pains in september, the GP initially thought gall stones but at the scan in mid december was told it was secondary liver cancer. Another scan a week later revealed the primary is in her bowel. She has a further appointment on the 15th (monday) with the colorectal specialists which she has asked me to go with her to.

Diagnoses wise that is all we know. She is agony and the GP has prescribed oramorph but shes still in pain, her appetite has got worse and worse since the pain started to the point where now for abot the last 3 or r weeks she hasnt managed more than a tin of soup or sometimes 2 a day. She says solid food makes her sick so has given up even trying to eat it.

I keep trying to stay positive and reading positive stories about people who recovered from similar but she looks awful, like a skeleton, she has no energy and just seems to have lost her zest if that makes sense.

Can anyone tell me some reassuring stuff? Is this just normal symptoms for cancer? Or does it look bad ? Obviously i understand nobody can diagnose over the internet etc. Its just i thought all these symptoms were more in the final months than the first and hope someone can tell me otherwise. How did it affect you or your loved ones in the beginning? Were they similar symptom wise?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • Hello Elizabeth.  Regarding the pain, your friend should not have to suffer like this and you should contact her GP straight away.  It is bad enough that she has cancer but suffering in this way should not have to be a part of the journey.  I thought the ethos in this day and age was to control the horrible symptoms to at least some degree so that their journey was not made unnecessarily more difficult.   If she could get the pain under control then some of the other problems for instance not eating may fall into place.

Others will hopefully come and post about their eperiences but it seemed to me that the dreadful pain she is suffering is key to what is happening.  You are a good friend.
