Hello, Glass.  I am sorry to learn that a family member has lung cancer.  I am not a doctor, nor as far as I know, do any doctors post on this forum.   The person to ask is your own doctor.   I understand that you are distressed and are trying to make sense of the diagnosis and how it will affect the lives of all of you (not least of all the family member who has been diagnosed with lung cancer) but can only suggest that you direct your questions to the doctor who will understand your worries and give you help. 

There is lots of useful information on this website about all cancers so please do take the time to look it up.  My best wishes to you.
