I'm ever so sorry your mum has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Honestly places like this really do help as it can be very isolating when you're watching a loved one go through this horrible journey. When my Dad was diagnosed  (April 2015) he was told that he had bowel cancer but it had also spread to his lungs and liver and he was 'incurable.' I was absolutely terrified being only 26 I didn't want to lose my Dad. He was put on chemotherapy and the aim was to help maintain the cancer to hopefully stop it spreading further and also to help prolong his life. It was very tough not only for him but us as a family. There were many times I felt so helpless and would research for things that may help him or cure him. Sadly he passed away in August (4 months ago) after the cancer had spread to his brain causing rapid decline. Every cancer is different and every patient is different. Any advice I can give you in the 2 years my Dad had cancer is to just be as supportive as you can. Help whenever you can however little or big and just let your mum know how loved she is and that you're holding her hand every step of the way. Cancer is very isolating as I said before so it really does help your loved one to know they aren't alone and you will help with anything they need. It can be frustrating for them at times not having the energy to do simple daily tasks so patience and understanding is key. It will be one of the hardest journeys you will go on and somehow you will find the strength along the way for your Mum and I believe this is down to the love you have. With my Dads cancer they had managed to operate on his bowel and remove it but because it was on his lungs and liver nothing could be done. I did ask why this was the case and we was just told that the cancer was like tiny grains of sand so there was no way they could remove all those little bits and cure him.
