Salivary gland cancer

I'm 45 I've been diagnosed with this condition two weeks ago.So read stuff on the net as I expected it would be surgery then radiotherapy. As I had more scans it came to light the tumour I have is aggressive and where it is behind my ear it would cause nerve damage.I then had a full scan then discovered I have cancer in my skull.I was told the cancer I have is terminal.Im starting radiotherapy hoping this can shrink the tumour and pro long my life.Im fit and healthy so none of this makes sense especially when I read it's for people over 50??.My wife has been great but she cries when she thinks I'm not paying attention. No one can give me a life expectancy so trying to get my head round taking things day by day.

  • Welcome to the forum Indarspa although I'm sorry to read about your diagnosis and the situation you find yourself.

I can't begin to imagine what you're going through at the moment but I think you're doing the right thing by taking things a day at a time. We have some more information about salivary gland cancer - including a section about survival - on our website here if you would like to have a look or our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you would like to chat to someone instead. Their lines are open between 9a.m - 5p.m, Monday - Friday on 0808 800 4040 (freephone).

We'll have our fingers crossed the radiotherapy is successful when the time comes to start your treatment Indarspa. Do let us know how you get on when you can and remember that you are not alone as there will always be people here who understand what you're going through.

    Kind regards,
