Repeat Colposcopy

My Mum has been diagnosed with cervical cancer recently.  The consultant decided that they were going to do a radical hysterectomy (there is no spread) on the 8th December.  However, yesterday the consultant rang her and said that she was now going to have a repeat colposcopy before the hysterectomy.  My question is why does she need a further colposcopy if, when they do the radical hysterectomy, the whole lot will be going anyway!

The consultant hasn't given Mum a reason to do the repeat colposcopy.  Could it be that they have misdisgnosed her with cancer.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

  • Welcome to the forum cazk1977 although I'm sorry to hear about your mum's recent diagnosis and the reason you are posting.

If it's unclear why your mum is having a repeat colposcopy do make sure either you (with your mum's permission) or your mum with you present have a chat with the consultant again to get some clarification. You can always discuss your mum's situation with our cancer nurses as well. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you are able to get this cleared up and that the rest of your mum's treatment goes well.

    Best wishes to you both,
