Head and neck cancer spread to lymph nodes

My dad had head neck cancer in 2013 and had his lymph nodes removed in his neck and had radio and chemo therapy.

last week he found a lump under his arm, after undergoing tests drs have confirmed the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes under his arm and behind his chest bone.

He’s asked them directly if it curable and they have said no he is starting chemo on Tuesday. I’m confused and devastated. Does anyone have any info or help with this. Or has anyone been through this? He told me he could only have 1-2 years left.

  • Welcome to the forum Jenijenjens although I'm sorry to hear that your dad's cancer has spread to the lymph nodes under his arm and behind his chest bone.

Was anyone with your dad when he spoke to his medical team? If not, maybe you can ask your dad if you can join him the next time he meets with them so you can get clarification on anything you're not sure of. You could even speak to his medical team on your own if your dad gives you permission.

Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you would like to chat to them about this as well. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m so do give them a call as they will do all they can to help.

    Best wishes to you both,
