Throat cancer

Yesterday I was diagnosed with throat cancer I am falling apart,  not stopped crying. Still have little information and waiting ct scan and ultrasound to see what we are dealing with. The tests are not for another 10 days and I have no idea how I'm going to get through this time as I have fallen apart

    Hi Julie,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. Waiting to have tests and then waiting again for the results, is always a stressful time.

If it’s of any consolation to you, your reactions are perfectly normal following a diagnosis like this. We tend to suffer a whole raft of different emotions, to snap at our loved ones and to cry copiously. As far as crying is concerned, just let the tears flow. Crying is a good stress reliever. For all you feel that you cannot cope with what lies ahead. You can, we all feel like this initially, but somehow or other, you do find a way.

You will feel better once you get the results. At this stage, you know that you have throat cancer, but not what type or stage. We all fear the unknown, but once you know exactly what you are dealing with and how you are going to treat it, things will get a little easier.

Try to keep yourself busy while you are waiting for the 10 days. This should help to pass the time a little quicker. If you want to hear from others who have had experience of throat cancer, why not use the search engine on the blue banner at the top of this page?  If you insert throat cancer and click, this will bring up previous posts on this subject.

Please keep in touch and let us know how your further tests go. We are always here for you whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Julie,

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis but as Jolamine has said crying is completely understandable and natural in this situation. I know you're worried about how you're going to get through this so I have included some information we have on our website about coping with cancer which I hope will help you at this time.

I have found some general information about throat cancer which I thought you may like to look at as well as sometimes knowing a bit more about what you're dealing with in the first instance can help you come to terms with the diagnosis. It also has links to other types of throat cancer so do refer back to it when you have got your results from the scan and ultrasound.

I can't imagine how scary this is for you but I just want you to know the Cancer Chat community are here to support you every step of the way.

    Kind regards,
