Recently diagnosed

Hi, I'm recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It all happened so quickly.  I've had a lumpectomy and two lymph nodes removed. One was positive. My consultant wants me to have chemotherapy, a mastectomy, radiation therapy and hormone treatment.

It's a lot to take in and I'm not sure I want to go through it all. I have ME/Fibromyalgia and that's hard enough without this extra problem.

  • Hi there, I am so sorry that you have had this diagnoses, but please try to be strong and not panic.

I had a diagnosis of breast cancer in January, have gone through all the treatment and have just come out the other end. I was very shocked and frightened, just like you and didn't think I could to it (especially the chemotherapy). However, it all went so quickly that I had hardly any time to think about it, you just get a strength from somewhere and seem to keep going.

I was very worried about losing my hair but used the cod cap during my treatment and I managed to keep a lot of it, which was great! At the end of the day, the thing you think about is getting better and getting rid of cancer and nothing else is as bad.

I am now 3 months post treatment, my hair has all come back and I have been back at work since beg of October. I do think about it most days but don't dwell on it now and keep myself busy and life is back to normal.

The support network is amazing and the care we get is second to none, so hang on in there and you will get through this just like me and all the other people out there who have had this terrible diagnosis. Be strong and have all the treatment they need to give you and you will soon get through it.

    Regards Maryanne
