    Hi Linluc,

May I extend a warm welcome to you from Cancer Chat?

I am sorry to hear about your husband’s diagnosis. This must have come as a dreadful shock to both of you. The good news is that the consultant has told you that it is curable. Chemotherapy is often given before surgery to reduce the size of the tumour.

Sadly, cancer doesn’t just affect the patient, but his family too. I am sure that your husband is terrified, even if he doesn’t want to admit this to you. The best thing that you can do is to try and put a positive slant on this situation. This is much more helpful than approaching this with a negative outlook.

Twenty years ago, I lost my mum to metastases from breast cancer after 12 years and now have breast cancer myself. I was first diagnosed 7 years ago and I cannot get over the difference in treatment between the two of us. Cancer treatment has come so far in that time and we are now hearing so much more about people living with cancer, rather than dying with it.

When is your husband due to start chemo? I hope that it all goes well for him.

Please keep in touch and let us know how he gets on. We are always here to support both of you, whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Linluc,

  • Hi Wendy,

I am so sorry to hear that you have stomach cancer. Have you started any treatment yet? I agree that this is a very scary time, but hope that all goes well for you.

I fully agree that it's good to talk openly with your husband/partner about all that is happening. My hubby attends all of my appointments with me. We find this helpfu too, as I don't then have to paraphrase all that my care team have told me.

I hope that all goes well for you as you travel your cancer journey.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
