My dads Recent diagnosis of myeloma on tuesday

Hello. New to this page,but not to the evils of cancer,how I so hate this disease. My dad was diagnosed with myeloma 2 days ago, shocked us all to the core. Hes not been ill,but then again,hes not one for saying he feels ill or showing emotion, anyway, He has just told mum that she and their youngest child,which is myself, have to go with him on weds to see the consultant, can understand mum going,but me o dont get why. Has anybody else done the same. Thanks,sorry for the long message .x

    Welcome to Cancer Chat, the site that nobody really wants to join.

    I am so sorry to hear about your Dad’s diagnosis. You do not say what age you or your dad are.  Could it be that his consultant fears that it might be too much for your mum and dad to take this news, or to decide on further treatment? It may also be that he wants to discuss any treatment options with you all.

    I am sorry to hear that you have already experienced cancer before. How long ago was this? I lost my mum to metastases from breast cancer 20 years ago and have had 3 bouts of breast cancer myself in the past 7 years. This is not a disease that I would wish on anybody!

    There was a point where my consultant saw my daughter in the early stages of my cancer journey and, I believe that his input helped her immensely.

    I hope that all goes well on Wednesday. Please stay in touch and let us know how your dad gets on. Remember, that there is always someone here for you, whenever you feel like talking or need support.

    Hi,

    I take it from your username that you may be 45 and so youe parents are in their late 60s or 70s. Your consultant has probably asked for you as maybe being the most aware of your siblings. At least, that's the only scenario I can think of.

    I have myeloma, although I'm in remission at present and have had chemo/radiation and consequent side-effects.. Should you have any questions, feel free to ask.

    I advise looking thoroughly at myeloma.org.uk. myelomabeacon, a US site, is also worth a view.

    Remember, myeloma is incurable but treatable. Some people are surviving 10, 15 and 20+ years.

    Take one moment at a time. All anybody needs, is to be sufficient to that moment.
