Still in shock

i was diagnosed on Thursday with DCIS intermediate grade following a routine mammogram and although the prognosis is good I'm still in a state of shock. I'm alternating between being high that it's been caught early and low and tearful at other times. My surgery is scheduled for 28th November and this scares me too, worried about the pain. At the moment I have a very large and solid haematoma at the site of the biopsy which is quite painful, is this normal. My surgeon has said that if it hasn't gone by the surgery time they will remove this too. Two weeks on from the biopsy it is showing no sign of dispersing and I'm wondering if it has got worse due to the fact I had to have another mammogram on Thursday to ensure the haemotoma hadn't pushed the clip out of place. So all in all a very anxious time.

  • If you are having a lumpectomy, don't worry. The pain is minimal, surgery seems to be generally done as day care so in and out in one day. If you are having a node biopsy, that will probably be more uncomfortable but I didn't need anything other than the odd paracetamol to help it.
