On 14 Sept I had a 29mm grade 3 weakly oestrogen positive invasive ductal breast cancer lump removed and a sentinel lymph removed which also showed 4mm cancer. I have been given the choice of having the other axillary lymph nodes removed to see if they are affected or to go ahead with treatment (chemo then radiation). I know prognosis depends on number of lymph nodes affected but also that NICE guidelines say chemo should start within 31 days of surgery and I am worried about delaying another month for a second surgery (provisionally 19th Oct) as research showed that women with stage 2 who had treatment starting after 61 days had 20% lower survival rate at 5 years than those starting after 31 days. Does anyone know if chemo and rads can kill cancer in lymph if it is 4mm or less? I am scared to wait although my gut says get it out as we don't know what we are fighting. Just feel confused and don't know what to do for the best chance.
