Please help we're so confused possible cancer for my grandad

hello to all I am new on this forum and I have just made an account to ask questions about my grandad who is currently waiting for results whether or not he has cancer. I hope you are all in good health and God bless you all who are battling cancer at the moment.

My grandad hasn't been exactly diagnosed but they are 90 percent sure it is cancer of the lung.

How it all began was my grandad  was losing weight without trying I noticed this but he just took it as a compliment. Then he got a bad cough and his chest was going bad for awhile. Hospitals predicted pneumonia but I was in entirely happy with that diagnosis.  My grandad doesn't speak very good English so to him he just keeps quiet when nurses are and doctors are explaining stuff to him because he's too embarrassed to speak up.  Luckily when I was a visiting in the hospital I found the nurse and I complain to them saying that he has lost weight and nobody is taking it serious. They then checked all his pre weights and matched up that he hasn't lost quite a lot of weight. After that they found he had fluid on his lungs which was somehow leaking which they was saying it was the fluid getting brought up by him coughing phlem up.  They gave me a X-ray and saw a shadow on his scan which is on the top right of his body around the collarbone bit. Can anyone explain what this is called .  When I'm with him and pointed out the shadow and they said they're not worried about that they were just worried about the fluid   So he was sent to London special hospital and had an operation which they described as putting the plaster on the hole in his lung to stop it from leaking.  After the operation he instantly felt better and months after starting to cough again and being fluid up.  He went back to the hospital for another x-ray which they were not happy about more fluid is back and is just like before the operation. I'm so sorry that this isn't properly  written but I didn't go with him to the appointments so I don't know the exact words for the operation ect.

Well today we went to an appointment and then it decided that they are pretty sure that is cancer and they're just waiting to see if something has spread to the lymph nodes

just want to ask  by hearing what I've told you if anyone has experience with anything like this. PleaSe if he got diagnoses what would you think it is. Would you think he would have a chance of surviving this. He's 84 but very fit and healthy.

Im sorry I know your not doctors but we have to wait 3 weeks and I don't know how to act right now.

  • Hi there ... so sorry to hear about your grandad ... he sure is having a hard time ... may be good idea to "ask the nurses" or phone their help line and you can chat to qualified nurse , who can help you understand the process more ... we can all give advice on feelings and other stuff but none of us can tell you a diagnosis as everyone is different.... and unfortunately most of us on here have had to wait for ... tests / results and treatment ... we know how hard the waiting is, and your not alone ...

thinking of you ... Chrisie x
