Malignant Melanoma - spread to the lymph nodes -

My husband David is a diabetic ( type 1) and has been diagnosed with  malignant melanoma.  He had 2 tumors removed from his back on July the 12th.  He had a PET scan on the 28th August and the results showed it had spread to his left arm lympth nodes.  He is having  surgery on the 17th Sept.  His oncologist has said that after the results are back he will start treatment.   He has mentioned treatment being  interferon alpha B2 injections 3 x week for 1 year.

We both work and are very active with playing golf.   We are both scared about the treatment and also how it will effect Davids diabeties.

  • Hi there ... life sure isn't fare and I know how worried you must feel at this time as my son has type 1 diabetes sinse he was 14 and is now 36 and in that time has had a couple of close calls and couple of operations too ... I stayed with him in hospital as I knew his Diabetes better then general nurses and the signs of his lows and made sure he was as safe as poss under anaesthetic.. his last one as an adult I couldn't do this as he was married then and we both were there .. she was really strong and stopped me from 'losing it completely ' and it was lovely having someone there and he came through fine ...

so sending my thoughts to you and they know a lot more now about monitoring the condition now ... keeping fingers crossed to you both ... hope you can let us know how it goes as I'm sure that can help others who have type 1 and are on this cancer journey too ..big hug Chrisie xx
