Scared silly

Hi everyone. It's really heartwarming to see all the support on here and thanks in advance fir takin the time to read this. About a week ago I went fir an ultrasound looking for gallstones which they found but also found a mass with solid particles in my kidney. The doccalled me next day to say I was to go for a CT scan ang urgent referral to urologist. I am absolutely prettified now. I have been given an appointment fir next week but not had the CT scan yet. Is this normal practice or is it because they know it's cancer already with the CT? Help greatly appreciated ️

  • Hi Louise,

    Welcome to the forum.

Everything you've described sounds like good practice. They've identified that there's a problem with the ultrasound, but that doesn't give a clear enough picture for a diagnosis. A CT scan has much finer definition and will give the team a far better idea of what they are dealing with.

I've had several CT scans over recent years and have never received a hint of what the CT scan showed until I've had a face to face meeting with my consultant. Again, this is normal practice.

I hope this helps set your expectations of what the process is likely to be. I think the early stages when you haven't had a firm diagnosis and are unsure what to expect are the scariest part of the whole experience.

    Best wishes

    Dave
