Lung Cancer Diagnosis

Hi all, I'll try to be brief.

Its my Father. Routine X-ray led from one thing to another. A lump on his lung was found a year ago. The doctor reassured him not cancer. Said to come back in a year to make sure not grown. It hadn't and he had more scans, biopsies etc. They have now found another lump on  the same right lung. Original doctor still said confident first lump not cancer, but referred him to someone else. He has now said he thinks they are cancer, can't have chemo because of the distance between them and intends to remove 2/3 of right lung, subject to fitness. He said no point having biopsy, as this won't show whether cancer or not???

Really upset/confused and angry at why this wasn't sorted a year ago.

any advice appreciated. We've told him to seek second opinion, which is now in the process of being sorted.

  •  Hi John

sorry to hear about your father.  I would definitely have a biopsy, I don't know why they say it wouldn't show whether it's cancer or not. I would definitely get a second opinion. I went 2 years ago with arm left pain , sent me to rheumatoid arthritis consultant for treatment saying it was that when actually it was Small Cell Lung Cancer. I had a biopsy last week which confirmed it. I was misdiagnosed for those 2 years and seeking legal action for it. I would pester them, it's your fathers life they have in their hands, I would also persue a 2nd, even 3rd opinion if needs be.

  • Thank you Diane, sorry to hear about your issues, hope you achieve a positive outcome after being misinformed for so long.

Im definitely pushing for the second opinion, something just doesn't seem right. The first consultant who said it wasn't cancer has now referred him on to someone else.

    Such a nightmare.

    Thanks again for your advice.
