When did life become so cruel?

So at the beginning of August my mum was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer which has spread to lymph nodes. We are currently going through tests to see if it has spread further before they commit to surgery.

Although this has been a very difficult time I have remained positive around my mums ability to get through this. However you Auntyhas just been admitted to hospital and unfortunately they have discovered a golf sized brain tumour. Again we are in early stages of tests and a treatment plan will be established.

does anyone have any words of encouragement? What the next steps are?

    Hi Kirsten,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Life has really thrown you a googlie hasn’t it? I am so sorry to hear about both your Mum and your aunt. It is hard to give words of encouragement in such a situation. I lost my own dear Mum to metastases from breast cancer. In the end it was in her liver, lungs, brain and bone. She lived for 12 years from diagnoses and went downhill very fast when the metastases were discovered in her final year.

You are at the really scary stage at present, when you are waiting for the results of tests for both. If it is of any consolation, it becomes easier when they reach surgery and  start treatment and you feel that you are doing something positive to try and stop growth of the tumours. Is your aunt your Mum’s sister and does cancer run in the family?

All you can do is to be there for them. Try to stay strong, let them know how much you love them and support them with any treatment regime prescribed for them.

Please keep us informed about how both of them get on. Remember that there is always someone here whenever any of you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
