Why do I have to wait so long for MRI

I was diagnosed on August 2nd with 1.5 cm tumor ER, PR positive and  HER2 positive  . I had a lumpectomy done and now waiting for until Aug 28th for MRI. I'm freaking out because I feel like the cancer is growing and they can't get me in any faster. Any thoughts pn how to calm my anxiety?

    Hi Jmendosa,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis but glad to hear that you have already had your lumpectomy. It can be difficult to get an MRI, as there is such a huge need for them. I would also expect that your surgeon has left your MRI for a couple of weeks to see how well your surgery has gone, as this is the best way to see the surrounding soft tissue.

I wish that I could give you some advice on how to calm your anxiety - this is something we all suffer from particularly just after diagnosis and while waiting for results. The best thing to do is to keep yourself busy with pleasanter pursuits. Time seems to stand still when you are waiting, but it passes a little quicker when you do this.

Try not to lookup the Internet. You will only scare yourself more, as we all tend to look at the worst case scenario ans attribute this to ourselves. This is not always the case, so we just scare ourselves more.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. There is always someone here whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
