Bowel cancer with secondary liver

My husband aged 60 has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer which has spread to the liver, two small spots.  He has a provisional date for surgery, hopefully will not have to have a stoma. The tumour is in his descending colon and is 8 cm which sounds enourmous to me.  I have always been one to have everything planned and am finding the uncertainty unbearable as everything is on hold. Where to I find a crystal ball to let me know where we will be in 6 months?

    Hi Amanda,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am so sorry to learn about your husband’s diagnosis. How is he coping with all that is happening? Unfortunately, Cancer is a disease which takes over our lives – not just for the patient but for their family members too.

When is he due to have his surgery?  Like you, I hope that he won’t need a stoma. We all find it difficult to deal with a cancer diagnosis. The uncertainty can drive us all up the walls. If you find that crystal ball please let us all know!

Please keep in touch and let us know how your husband is getting on. There is always someone here whenever either of you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello ,  my husband was diagnosed in April, our world fell apart, the forthcoming weeks were hell, but somehow you do get through it, each appointment is one more ticked off,  I'm trying to live for each day, like yourself I'm a planner, had two holidays booked, day trips all sorts , and one by one we have had to cancel, but  he was operated on in may, major surgery Geoffs was in his rectum so has had to have an ileostomy which he is struggling with ,  he is constantly exhausted, but histology reports on tumour were good , and for now they feel he is cancer free , I'm not daft , I know we have a long road ahead, and an uncertain future , life will never be the same again,  but sometimes that's not always bad, I've learnt to appreciate life so much more ,   There are lots of lovely people on here for support, I was also recommended by the nurse on hear of Beating bowel cancer forum as well , they too are amazing

    good luck,

    hugs

    Tracey xx
