bladder cancer

Last week I had a cystoscopy/TURBT,. my consultant found a tumour the size of a satsuma, he said going from my bladder to my cervix, he said he removed some of it and sent it off to pathology. I asked him if he thinks its benign and he shook his head and said no, so i asked him if he thinks its treatable and he said lets just wait to see scan results and stuff but in the long term probably looking at total bladder removal. I am having ct scan with contrast this friday and mri scan in a few weeks when my bladder has healed fro the TURBT. He mentioned checking my chest and torso for spread and mentioned staging so i am assuming these doctors can normally tell if its cancer even before pathology comes back.

    Hi Babycakes,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am so very sorry to hear about the results of your recent cystoscopy. This must be a very worrying time for you. Waiting for tests and then for the results is always a scary time. I do hope that you get it all over with quickly. No matter what the outcome, you will feel better once you start treatment.

I think that you will find that most cancer surgeons can detect cancer at 40 paces. The experience they gain over the years seems to give them a sixth sense. They won’t usually divulge anything until the results of your tests come back.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. There is always someone here if you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • well im back and its not good news, I got some results couple of weeks ago saying muscle invasive bladder cancer, grade 3 and at least stage 2 but could go up a stage when results of MRI scan came back, but i would probably be having chem then bladder removal. well they rang me on friday to say it is actually stage 4 as its invaded into my urerus and theres some enlarged lymph nodes,  so now im not having chemo and theyre going straight for surgey to remve bladder, uterus all my lady bits and lymph nodes. i have an appointment this friday to talk about the results in full detail and about my surgery. but also now ive been laid up in bed since friday with a really bad back, i cant sit stand or walk much without really bad pain, so im wondering if its to do with the cancer or could it just be a bad back maybe sciatica as i have been in bed a lot in a slouchy position. im absolutely devastated, i just really cant believe this is happening to me. from going for months getting told oh no its a water infection, youre too young for bladder cancer, to this, i am an emotional wreck.

    Hi Babycakes,

I am glad to hear from you, as I was wondering what was happening to you.

This is certainly not the news you wanted to hear. I am not at all surprised that you feel an emotional wreck. I hope that your surgeon is still confident that he can remove all your ‘lady bits’ and  possibly use chemo post-op to slow down the rate of growth.

I hope that your sore back is the result of being in bed so much and is not related to your cancer. Your consultant should be able to reassure you about this on Friday. I hope that he can tell you all you need to know on Friday and that you will be confident enough in his suggestions to follow his treatment plan for you. Do you have a good support network at home?

Please keep in touch and let us know how your surgery goes. Have you got a date for this yet?

Thinking of you and praying for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
