I am not a medic so cannot give you the advice you need, but would advise you to contact the nurses on this site, who are very helpful and could point you in the direction of some accurate information. Their number is 0808 800 4040 and it is a Freephone number. You can  also write to them via the “Ask the Nurses” section of this site.

 You are quite right to try and prepare for what lies ahead, but please avoid looking up the Internet, as you will end up bamboozled by information which is not always accurate. You will also find that you tend to dwell on worst case scenarios and scare yourself rigid, when quite often this doesn’t apply to your Dad.
