Lung cancer, shadow on lung

Hi, so My dad has been living abroad when he fell ill, he got pneumonia and during the process found out that he had lung cancer in one of his lungs, he had an operation to have the masses removed and has since showed that they have not come back. However he has moved back to the Uk to be closer to me and he has since disclosed that he has had a scan that's shown a shadow on his other lung and one of his kidneys.

My question is is that should I be preparing myself for the worst and do shadows normally indicate the worst, especially with a pre existing diagnosis?

Thanks

  • Welcome to our forum, Tamsin.

I'm so sorry to hear that your dad's latest scan showed a shadow on the other lung and in one of his kidneys, this must be a very worrying time for you.

Do you have a date for your dad's next appointment with his medical team? If it is an option, it might be a good idea for you to go with him and discuss your concerns with his doctors.

Also, please know that our cancer nurses are available for you to call on this telephone number: 0808 800 4040,  Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I hope you get some answers soon, Tamsin. Do come back, if you find a moment to keep us posted.

Best wishes to you and your dad,

  • Hi, thanks so much for the reply.

I don't have any more information at the moment as he's currently putting off going back to the doctor.

I think he may be scared of what they're going to tell him.

We're butting heads a little over him avoiding the problem.

I'm not an only child but I'm the only child of 4 that still has contact with my dad and I'm trying to support him as best I can with everything but feel a bit crushed by the whole situation.

Many advice on how best I can support him in getting him to actually see the doctor? I don't want to nag him and I've offered to go with but I'm just at a loss.

    Thanks again
