I found a lump back in March and because I have family history of breast cancer I went to the Drs the following day. I was referred to the breast clinic and was seen 2 weeks later, I had an ultra sound and a needle biopsy which when I went for results two weeks later showed fatty tissue, I have yearly mammograms ( due to family history) and the consultant felt I should wait a few weeks as I was due my yearly mammogram he then examined my lump and said he didn't feel this was fatty tissue and whatever the mammogram showed it should be removed anyway. So in April I had the mammogram went for results to say all clear, but to follow up and have this tiny lump removed and checked. I had a lumpectomy on 24th May and the consultant was amazing reassuring me they got it all and to wait for results from lab. On the 12th of June I returned to the consultant to have wound checked and get my results. I was told that they was really shocked by the results as unfortunately it was grade 2 invasive ductal cancer this lump was tiny 5mm I was booked in for an MRI to see if anymore lumps could be seen the following week, this was clear and yesterday I had sentinel node biopsy where three nodes were removed I am returning to consultant on the 19th to see if any cancer cells were present in these nodes, I will then start radiotherapy and will go on tamoxifen once treatment is complete. Been a whirlwind of emotions which hit me tonight.
Im really nervous about the radiotherapy... how is it? Anyone else been through similar and can share their experience?
thanks
