Ovarian cancer

Hi, a week ago I had an ultrasound scan which showed some abnormal cysts. Ive just received back some blood results one of which is the CA 125. My other blood results were good but the range on the CA 125 was 79 which my doctor indicated that this was a sign that I did have ovarian cancer. I have read that if the CA 125 is over 35 then this is a marker but what do the numbers indicate? I'm really, really scared and I'm just waiting to have an appointment now with the gynaecologist, but it's awful just waiting. Any advice help etc would be really helpful. Thanks

    Hi,

I am afraid that I know very little about ovarian cancer. I myself have had 2 bouts of primary breast cancer. Perhaps someone with experience of the disease will come along soon?

The reason that I replied to your post is to suggest that you might find it easier to get medical advice from some of the nurses on this site. You can either ask a question on the Ask the nurses part of the site, or you can use the Freephone facility and phone them on 0808 800 4040, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Have you been given any indication of when your appointment with the gynecologist is likely to be? The waiting is an awful stage of the cancer journey I agree but try to distract yourself from the waiting by keeping yourself busy.

Try to avoid the Internet, as you will always see the worst case scenarios and you usually manage to convince yourself that they apply to you, which is seldom the case. This just increases the worry even more

Keep in touch and let us know how things go. We are always here to give you support.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
