Devastating Lymphomas

hi, we just had the news today that our Son who is only 35 has been diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma. He was only ever 9 stone at best but has lost 2 and a half Stone in the last 5 weeks.i am so angry at our GP, our son has been complaining about lumps in his neck, severe neck pain and fatigue for nearly two years and all he got was "it is probably a trapped nerve" it has taken a collapse at work and hospitalisation to find out what the problem really is. He is about to start 6 months chemotherapy but we are so terrified at the prospect of losing our Son. He has  the cancer in his neck, abdomen and under arms But all we can get is conflicting opinions on survival rates. Can anyone offer a realistic but honest opinion. He looks so ill, our hearts are already broken but I can not bear the thought of losing our precious Son. Life is so cruel. Des

  • Hi des

I'm sorry to hear about what your going through with your son I can't tell you much about survival rates or anything like that but your son's story does sound familiar to me so hopefully this may help in some way.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma at 24 i was in and out of doctors and like your son it took me collapsing at work to find out what was happening. I rapidly lost weight dropping about 3stone in 4months I quickly was put into chemo for 6months and then I had to do 3 weeks of radiotherapy to help finish cleaning it up as they hadn't managed to get it all I'm now 29 my health has it's ups and downs.

Cancer isn't easy time on the person going through it or the people on the outside looking in but as hard as it is try to remember there will be good days and there will be bad. I was told off my doctor that the good days will put weigh the bad I've been on abvd and RCVP chemo so if I can be of any help or if you just want to chat feel free.

Good luck to you all and your son
