Hi, my na me is Nick and I was diagnosed with a T2 cancer in the base of my tounge. I live on my own and am very scared of how the treatment will affect me. I am going to receive a radio/chaemo treatment. Has anyone any advice for me?I am 56 years old and although I have a good relationship with my son and daugher they can't be with me all the time

  • Hi, I'm sorry I don't have any advice about your diagnosis, but just wanted to say hello and let you know you are definitely not on your own.

You have come to the right place and I'm sure someone will be along shortly who will be in a similar position as you.

it is a great forum for advice and meeting people.

    sending you a hug

  • Thank you so much Doreen. That is my fear being at home on my own with dark thoughts

  • Hi Nick. Welcome to this very friendly forum.

My experience is similar in a way. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2015, I wen through a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy on my own. I have a son and daughter who have their own lives and families.

I found it do able on my own. I was scared too what would happen but just took each stage of the journey as it came.

I wish you well, if you need to chat there is always someone here.

  • Hi nick

I had throat cancer last year and went through 30 dose of radiation treatment and 1 chemo as it made my tinnitus worse and was only being used as a boost for the radiation.i had a feeding tube fitted into my stomach as my throat would get to sore to swollow anything. They put me on ensure 2cal plus to keep my weight up, if you do go on these please add plenty of milk as they are thick and hard to get down otherwise, I stayed on the strawberry as I didn't like the other flavours. They should give a cream to rub onto your neck to help stop it from drying out please use this cream a lot . I found the first few weeks were not to bad but all of sudden it will change to where you feel tired and sore that is the radiation I can't really tell you how the chemo will affect you as I only had the one .when and if you can,t the ensure drinks they can go through your stomach tube if need be , don't worry they will show you how to do this, it is easy and not painful. I could of gone through this on my own but it sure helps to have someone to help you especially nearer the end of your treatment. I hope this helps a little bit if you have any questions that I might be able to help with just ask mate.
