Sarcoma

Hello , my dad has a sarcoma which is huge in his abdomen. We have only recently ( within  weeks ) watched a 15&1/2 st man deteriorate sooo quickly in front of us . He has a blockage in his bowel so is unable to eat solids and surviving on tiny amounts of fortisips and yoghurts. He has been given the option of having chemo but is sooo weak and frail that he really couldn't handle it. The whole family are watching him starve , the tumour is inoperable and it's a living nightmare. Either way , we see him bombarded with chemo or watch him starve to death. We have been told chemo will prob not work , we are now contacting Macmillan for support as there's no answers to what we can do for him ! The whole family are devastated, petrified and really can't seem to sit back and watch . We are totally helpless :(

    Hi Lisaw,

It is sole destroying to watch a loved one deteriorate so quickly. The fact that your dad is not able to eat doesn’t help matters. The sad thing is that there is so little you can do to help him at this stage. The best thing you can do is to just be there for him. Take each day as it comes and don’t try to look at the bigger picture.

At times like this we find the strength to carry on, no matter how unsettling the news is. You are caught between a rock and a hard place when he is too frail to undergo chemo. I am sure that you will find McMillan a great help. You may find that they can even suggest some little ways to make things easier for him.

Thinking of you all and praying that you can keep him comfortable.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
