So sorry to hear of your news. On the compassionate leave front, i'm afraid it depends entirely on the company that you work for. There is no statutory right for paid compassionate leave. However, given the circumstances most companies will allow you unpaid leave to spend time with your dad as a minimum.
Alternatively, speak to your GP. If you work for a difficult company who lack compassion and understanding it can often be easier to get signed off sick by your doctor. Again depending on your company you will then get paid sick leave or statutory sick pay.
