bioplasmic lymphoma

A dear family friend has been diagnosed with bioplasmic lymphoma, and on research it seems there isnt any happy endings. i just wondered if you or someone you know ever had this diognosis and if there are any happy recover stories or if it is as heartbreaking as i have read?
The doctors have said the chemo is to prolong his life and not to survive it :(
