Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Hi, my mother in law, has been diagnosed with 'well differentiated Squamous cell carcinoma'. I'm not understanding the 'well differentiated', part. She suffers dementia and doesn't appear to realise she has skin cancer. Does anybody have any experience of the kind of cancer, and what on earth, is 'well differentiated', mean, relating to this ?

she hasn't had it removed, yet. She's due to see a dermatologist on Tuesday. Need to read her letter, to find out more. She's panicking more about a probable skin graft, than the cancer. She really doesn't realise.

Thank you, Nicci.

  • Welcome to our forum Nicci.

I’m sorry to hear your mother-in-law has been diagnosed with well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma and that she suffers from dementia.

It might be worth giving our cancer nurses a ring and ask what “well differentiated”. If you choose to do so please know that their line is open Monday - Friday between 9 a.m - 5 p.m and you can reach them by calling this phone number: 0808 800 4040.

I hope all goes well for your mother-in-law on Tuesday, and if you have a minute do come back and let us know how you are both doing.

    Best wishes,
